I use this all the time in autocad.............

Posted - 29 Jan 2007 : 07:10:12 It's an interesting idea. I'd need to explore the details before I could recommend this to the programmers.
Here are the issues: If the print setup is stored with the document, the print position at least is likely to be specific to one particular printer. Even among A4 printers, the paper handling margins can vary quite widely. If the specific printer is recorded, the design becomes less portable, although it's arguabe that the situation would be no worse than at present. If the print set-up information is stored with the design, rather than using a separate job file, that setup becomes less portable, as new designs would need to be set up from scratch each time.
Some compromise between the existing system of job files and embedding print information in the document would probably give the best all round results, but I'd welcome a dialogue to arrive at a best solution.

My Autosketch remembers with each design the printer sheet size and orientation and sets up the printer automatically with these values prior to printing .
Interestingly a customer is forcing me to use Mentor Graphics Pads at the moment , albeit at no cost to me except that my productivity is much lower because of its pedantic interface, and that does not save the printer settings.
