Posted - 07 Sep 2015 : 23:27:45 I've just re- installed EPC V19.0.1 on a new computer. Suddenly a copper pour area is reporting "No area is large enough to be retained". It didn't used to, and other copper pours on the same PCB work. The settings are the same as one of the other areas that does pour. Any ideas? |

Posted - 22 Dec 2015 : 16:16:34 So I deleted the Copper Pour Area and picked up the copy I made earlier. Pasted that back into the original position and now it all seems okay at the reduced Guard Spacing for the net...? Now my Copper Pour report is giving some anomolies...

Posted - 22 Dec 2015 : 15:16:29 Well I realised that I had altered the Guard Spacing of the net in question. Restoring original spacing got me back the Copper Pour. However, it doesn't make sense to me as I had decreased the guard spacing which to my thinking should decrease the probability of minimum space issues. Anyway there are large continuous area on this pour area. Orginal Guard was 1.5mm. I reduced it to 0.71mm. Now finfd that 0.8mm is fine but 0.79mm gives the problem... Maybe I'm missing something...

Posted - 22 Dec 2015 : 15:06:11 Have you tried experimenting with the settings in Design Tech=>Rules? Plenty of things to play with in the left hand "Powerplanes" section. "Totally flooded (no thermals) usually gives the least issues.
I only pour one area at a time and I must admit, it's not often I get a flood pour issue,- unless it's my mistake! |

Posted - 22 Dec 2015 : 14:50:49 Any advance on this. I've just had the same thing happen to me running 18.0.4 No new software installation. Just editing a design and suddenly one of the Copper Pour areas reports the same problem. No settings altered etc and it's a large area with relatively few connections. Restarted EasyPC but no change. fwiw I can copy the area and paste it outside the board and pour it with the same net unconnected to anything else. ???

Posted - 08 Sep 2015 : 11:11:44 There was a time in the distant past where what I describe was a problem, but it sounds from what Ed says that that is now fixed.
Contact Numberone, I do know there is a potential fix if it's the problem I had a few weeks regarding pours.

A copper pour area doesn't need to be connected to a previously defined net. EPC will give a warning message, "Floating Potential" but it will still flood.

Posted - 08 Sep 2015 : 10:06:02 Yes, I tried both. Min copper area is set to 0 on pours that succeed, and setting it to any other value on this one doesn't help. Likewise I've tried not removing islands (they are normally removed). I've also tried deleting the pour area and creating a new one in case it was specific to that one. |

Posted - 08 Sep 2015 : 08:59:00 Sounds obvious, -but have you checked the Min Copper Area value in the top right hand corner of the Pour Copper dialogue box?
Also try not ticking Remove Isolated Islands and see what happens. |
