When a copper pour area is added, does the pour include the enclosing area shape elements? For example, if I create a rectangle pour area 100 mils x 100 mils, and my rectangle elements are 5 mils in width, will the actual copper pour be 100 x 100 or 105 x 105? (enclosing element centers 2.5 mils x 2)

I seem to remember in previous versions that the pour area did not include the containg shape element widths. I am now running 18.0.3. I just created a test pour and plotted the output. Looking at it in a gerber viewer, the actual copper pour includes the width of the enclosing shape.

The copper shapes generated by Pour will use the same line style as is used for the Pour Area. Also, the outermost edge of the copper shapes will be in the same place as those of the Area, assuming that the board spacing etc. will allow the copper to go that far.

So if your Pour Area is inside the board and not constrained by other things, I would expect the outermost segments of the copper and the area to coincide.

In other words, we do not constrain the copper so that it only reaches the centre-line of the Pour Area.

After further testing, it appears the bounding shape is not included. My gerber viewer was making me think it did.

When I had the bounding elements set to 5 mils, the pour area appeared to be larger than it actually was. I changed the bounding elements from 5 mils to 50 mils and regenerated the gerbers. Looking at it again in the gerber viewer, the size of the copper pour did not change.

The whole of the copper pour is made up of elements of the line width used so I would imagine this would include the bounding box. Pretty easy to check I would have thought ?
