I've just upgraded from V16 to V19 and tried importing my parts into a new design. When I looked in the parts bin there were no parts and I didn't receive any warnings or errors. Has something changed?
Wanted to add that I am using the update V19.0.1. I noticed in another post that someone had an issue with schematic parts where as my parts are strictly PCB parts. I use Orcad to design my project then import the EDIF.net file. Have done this for years with previous versions of EasyPC with no issues.
I used to use this method too and had to create a "map" file to ensure compatibility between the two systems. Eventually, the mapping file became so cumbersome (and prone to self induced errors) that I stopped using this method.
The "look" of EPC schematics has improved dramatically over the years, and so I generally no longer use Orcad for schematic entry.
I believe that No1 introduced a new library structure round about V16 and this may be causing you the problems you describe (???).
I presume that you are "pointing" to the correct location to access the library folder, and that the component files are situated there? Not quite sure what you mean by
quote: tried importing my parts into a new design .........When I looked in the parts bin there were no parts
I believe the the software knows where the library is because I can see the parts when I open the library manager. When I refer to "the parts" I'm talking about the custom parts that I've made over the years. Not sure how to verify that I'm "pointing" to the right location?
To answer the other question:"tried importing my parts into a new design" what I mean is that when I start a new PCB design and I import the Orcad netlist normally the parts are deposited in the components bin automatically. This time nothing is added to the bin and I don't have any errors or warnings telling me why it did not find any components.
I know this sounds obvious but have you looked to see if the components are on the work area as you can have them placed in component bin or work area.
Here's an interesting observation: I imported an old Orcad netlist from a project previously completed and the components were placed in the bin. It would appear this issue is with the netlist produced by Orcad for this design. I had a similar incident like this previously and support changed one line of the netlist and it worked. I'll pass along this info to Peter and see what he thinks.
