I have a case where I would like to add a guard spacing to a pad to keep the copper from coming too close during the pours but I don't want to apply it to the entire net. Best solution I have come up with was to make a component that really had two pad and one was just a top side SMT pad that would more to less add a ring around my through hole pad. It works but not having to two pads tied together caused a lot of DRC errors. I have many cases where there are several traces that leave the pad and may cause 5 or 6 DRC errors per pad and it a lot to deal with.
The real issue is we have a single pin connector that has a wire crimp band that has a sharp edge on it and if it gets pulled sideways it can cut through traces that are too close. These are large holes and I could just make a very large pad to deal with this but is on a 4oz copper board and I really need better thermal relief for soldering. Thanks David
