I have a very simple new design that uses copper pour (which I have used on numerous designs in the past). However, when I select Tools->Pour Copper the dialog box opens as normal, but no copper shows on the PCB. I vaguely remember this happening before, and I think it was due to some corruption of the PCB file that could be fixed by some means of cleaning it. Can anyone remind me how to do it?

Hi Alan,

Not sure if this can help but :

1. Pour copper for those areas in the centre of the board first, then work you way outwards

2. Change the line fill width for the pour to be not a factor of the pour area width/length

I always use the right hand mouse button click to select the pour operation.

I am using v17 at the moment.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Shadders.

Iain, there's nothing stopping you pouring an area with "floating potential".
Maybe bad practice, but it can be done.

Ed, have to correct you on that one, if the pour has nothing to connect to you get a error saying something like "no copper area large enough found" or something like that. I am away from my office so cannot check, but it caught me out a couple of times !

No, Ed is right. You get a warning saying "No net selected, so copper will be created with floating potential. Are you sure you wish to do this?"
Connecting it to an empty net doesn't even generate a warning.

This must be something new in the latest versions. I haven't encountered the problem I am thinking of for a while but I will give it a try when I get back to my desk.
