I would like to know if there is a tool or some other trick that will allow me to automatically "clip" or otherwise remove a segment of trace that overhangs a component pad (either at the time of running connecting the trace or after the fact). In this specific example, I want to run a 40mil trace from a pad whose width is 35mil. I can do this manually by running a 35mil trace for a very short distance and then switching to a 40mil trace, but this is time consuming. This would be something analogous to a reverse teardrop

The image in the link shows the example to which I am referring. Is there a tool within the software that can do this?

I am running version 20.0.1 on a Windows 7 Machine.

Thanks,

You can't "clip" these bits off, however you could create the connections as filled copper shapes ..... remember to add them to the relevant nets.

Thanks Ian. I'll play around with the copper pour area approach.

Doesn't need to be done with copper pour .... can use filled copper shapes
