Hi,
I completed a search, but could not find an answer - apologies if this has been answered already.
I have completed the right side of the stereo PCB, and now want to replicate exactly the same layout for the left side, but obviously with the left side components and nets.
Is there any way of achieving this without having to route the entire left side by hand again ?.
Thanks and regards,
Shadders. |

If you have a schematic in the project, simply create each side as a group, in the layout then you can apply layout pattern from the group you have tracked to the unplaced group. Watch out for "parallel" components such as de-couplers, you may need to do a bit of editing. If you just have a PCB layout, try selecting the section you have done and doing a copy and paste.

Hi Iain,
Thanks.
I have the schematic - and placed one side of the PCB - right side. Should i then select the right side as a group - (unselect schematic only option) ???
What would be the next steps - or is it in the help or the manual - i have v15 print manual i think.
Thanks and regards,

Hi Iain,
I worked it out- read the help - i copied one set of PCB layout - but think the algorithm needs some work.
It has placed incorrect capacitors in positions - that is, it has not determined that a specific component can only be replaced with the same version (make and type) - specifically for capacitors. Resistors seem to be different values too.
It has at least provided the positions correctly.
Thanks and regards,

Copy to the clipboard and then apply clipboard to new group works a lot better. Tracks and most vias seem to get replicated properly. It's no perfect but can still save a lot of work. Parallel caps can end up getting mixed up, but as these are on the same nets EasyPC has no way at the moment of avoiding this.

Hi Iain,
Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. I will try this next - in going through the placings, some resistors are now capacitors - so any further accuracy is of a great benefit - especially if the process copies the tracks.
Thanks again,
Regards,
Shadders. |

Meant to also say ..... there is a patch available that fixes a few issues with this utility. I would contact Numberone if you need this.

Hi Iain,
Thanks - i have the latest software and update - i assume the patch will be published ?
I will try the options to get a better understanding. It is a great feature - saves a lot of time, even when the component placement is presented, easy to replace with the correct component.
To place the components automatically - and correctly - will take quite a bit of programming - so if it gets it wrong in places, not such a bad thing. Just need to test the feature to determine any idiosyncrasies.
Thanks and regards,

The patch has not been applied to any update, so I would ask Numberone for it.

Hi Shadders and Iain
I'm wondering if you made any more progress with this, as I need to do something similar with a switching supply for which I've prototyped and verified a layout, and now need to put five instances into a single design along with other components.
Did you get the patches? If so did they help? I'm running the latest version (21.0.2)
I'd be grateful for any helpful suggestions Thanks, Graham |

Hi Graham,
I did not ask for the patch - as i was side tracked on something else.
Regards, Shadders. |
