Hello, I have a lot of via fencing in my design that I've already placed and would like to assign these all to one ground. When I select one via I can go through the drop down menu and select "add to net" and everything is fine. When I select more than one this option goes away. Do I have to select each one individually to assign the net (there are a lot of them) or is there a trick that I'm not aware of?

Thanks

I usually add the first via, set the size, etc. then assign it to the GND net.

Then simply copy that via and paste it ! The pasted copies will automatically be assigned to the same net !

TIP: For fencing, I usually do a copper pour first as a guide, then add via's where they are needed (as well as ensuring island fills have multiple via's to prevent them being antennas), then I clear the pour and then redo the fill.

Remember there is also the stitching utility where you can do things like this automatically. Very handy !!!

This is what I need to remember to do in the future. I don't use the program frequently enough to remember these things, until it's too late.

Iain: I'm not aware of the stitching utility, I searched for it in the help and didn't see it. Can you explain a little more about it? How I normally do the via fencing is align one via and then use the replicate feature.

type in "apply vias" in the help index and you will find this.
Or look at the V17 supplement page 24.

Its on the "tools" tab called Apply Vias.

Sorry for calling to stitching ... thats just how I remember it !
